KATHY HALVORSON -- Oboe/English horn
studied at the University of Wisconsin and the New England Conservatory of Music. In Boston she was an active performer in contemporary classical, jazz, ethnic and third stream ensembles as well as classical orchestras and chamber music. In 1995, Kathy moved to the Netherlands, where she performed with the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Amsterdam Bach Soloists, Calefax Reed Quintet, the Netherlands Opera, Ballet, Symphony and Radio Orchestras, and the Trio Cassandra. A flair for improvisation has singled her out as one of a handful of oboists worldwide with a truly unique voice. Kathy has worked with the Mingus Epitaph, George Russell Big Band, Ken Schaphorst Big Band, Jazz Composers Alliance, Celtic music artist Aine Minogue, and jazz bassoonist Michael Rabinowitz. She has appeared as a soloist with many ensembles including Boston’s Indian Hill Symphony Orchestra, Amsterdam’s Strawinsky Ensemble, and with Alea III in Boston and Athens, Greece.
