SATORI Student Chamber Music Competition – 2013--2014

ELIGIBILITY AND REPERTOIRE:

Entrants will be limited to ensembles made up of students in 7th-12th grades, residing or attending schools in the Greater Lehigh Valley area, or studying with area private teachers. Younger students may compete with the recommendation of their private teacher. Students will be ineligible after their graduation from high school. Public, private, parochial, home-schooled, and charter school students are all eligible. Previous competition winners may compete in a subsequent year provided their competing ensemble is significantly different in instrumentation from their previous winning performance.

In this year's performance competition, ensembles may include strings, winds, and/or brass as appropriate -- NO PIANO -- and must involve a minimum of two and a maximum of ten performers, must perform without a conductor, and must present a selection from the classical chamber music literature. Individual students may compete with more than one ensemble, provided the instrumentation and repertoire are significantly different. Competition selections should be approximately 6-15 minutes in length, and should include only complete works, or complete movements thereof. Performance of original student compositions, jazz, vocal, rock, and popular music, while recognized as valid art forms, are not included in this competition.

In this year's composition competition, student compositions should be written for a trio of flute, violin, and cello. Compositions should be a maximum of 5 minutes in length. Student composers may submit only one composition in any year's competition.
